Children with food restrictions, gluten-free, allergies, vegan college dining – news to August 14 2011

Children with food restrictions need an environment where they can thrive, and don’t like to be singled out because it can isolate them from their peers – a number of articles this week talked about ways to do that. Sushi is not gluten-free, and restaurants and frozen food manufacturers are starting to be more savvy about offering GF foods. Sales of an allergen-free curry powder have soared, and U.S. food recalls have increased with 45% being related to allergens. Low carb and low dairy diets may improve acne, and there’s going to be a new vegan dining hall at the University of North Texas.
