In the USA, there’s a balance between the more traditional low-fat diets (Hungry Girl, China Study, Now Eat This!) and paleo / low-carb (Atkins, Why We Get Fat) diets. Most of these diets lean towards unprocessed foods. The 4-Hour Body is moving down the list – it includes a complex calorie-cycling diet, with restrictions 6 days of the week (no white carbohydrates, eat the same meals over and over, don’t drink calories, don’t eat fruit) and then 1 day of overeating everything. The Dukan Diet is about to be issued and pre-sales are high.
In the UK, The Dukan Diet continues to rule the roost. This consists of an initiation phase of eating lean-protein-rich foods only, then a weight loss phase with protein plus some vegetables for weight loss, then phase 3 with added fruit, bread, cheese and starchy foods, and then a lifetime phase of eating what you want with only protein on Thursdays. The 4-Hour Body is still going strong.
